hi there:
still summer in the city, oy, oy, oy.
no matter. we, here at ella veres artventures, have more grandiose things to announce:
1. we are rehearsing ‘we are too white to be gypsies’ a text based on interviews about discrimination. we’ll be presenting for starters a public reading in the fall at the center for the theater of the oppressed at the the riverside church. please stop by. the theatre is located on 91 claremont avenue between 120th and 122nd st. we meet in room 321, third floor to your right. if the concierge treats you with suspicion, tell him you go to see our leader, jeremiah drake, saturdays 1-4 pm starting with next week.
2. a full-evening performance, 'my body's resume', is in the works for this fall, thanks to material for the arts and the field space grant and, here we go: we are the proud recipient of artward bound residency with earthdance. that means for the first part of september will be in the foothills of the berkshire mountains in plainfield, massachusetts rehearsing with other lucky ones under karen bernard’s facilitation/moderation, [huh, is english language easy or what] in a rustic and renovated farmhouse with a glimpse of an apple orchard and meadow of soft grasses. there is an all-vegetarian kitchen, an outdoor sauna, a small pond, and a nearby lake for swimming. and probably swarms of mosquito vampires.
3. alas, that is not enough to mount shows, so we go cottage industry! our first event at the brownstone, harlem's first fashion enclave, on harlem’s busiest shopping thoroughfare at 24 e. 125th st., between fifth and madison avenues. saturday 1 pm – 7 pm. our merchandise includes pictures from real transylvania, jewelry, kooky medieval transylvanian costumes, bags, mad caps. if you can’t make it, drop us a line, or hire us to take your pictures, make your costume so on, and if you are more adventurous come along to transylvania for halloween on our first cultural tour. or if not interested in our produce, please donate, barter your talents, whichever way you feel fit to fight our succumbing to recession.
4. we intend to put to good use our pen. so if you have a show coming up and want an awfully subjective review invite us and we’ll features you like we did james braley’s solo show ‘life in a marital institution’. playing until august 31 · wed - sat 8:00 · sun 3:00 & 7:00 at soho playhouse · 15 vandam street. (212) 691-1555 www.sohoplayhouse.com
5. in works is a review of cheryl harnest performs ‘sacred is the new profane’, a solo show chronicling her journey from drama queen to dharma queen, part of the ninth annual midtown international theatre festival.
